The Empire Strikes Back

Great part of the Star Wars Saga--Luke finds out who is father is and learns more about the power of the dark side of the force, great banter (and romance) between Han and Leia, more battle between good and evil, and great wisdom from Yoda as he is training Luke, "Try not. Do or do not. There is no try."

This is my favorite of the Star Wars films. And, in my opinion, it's the best one. It introduces Yoda, plus sets up the final storyline. I'm reminded of the bit of dialog from "Clerks" (1994, dir. Kevin Smith):

Randal Graves: Which did you like better? "Jedi" or "The Empire Strikes Back"?
Dante Hicks: "Empire".
Randal Graves: Blasphemy.
Dante Hicks: "Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

I like Return of the Jedi the best. The Ewoks are great! But I will be posting about that. Empire is excellent though.

Let me add 1 thing, which is a blemish on "Empire." It also introduces the character of Boba Fett, the most overrated Star Wars character. I have no idea how Boba Fett got the cultlike following that he did, but here we are.

The question then becomes, which "Jedi" is the better one: the original ending or the new ending?

BTW, I was an Ewok for Halloween one year. It was cute. Speaking of cute; Baby Ewoks!
