1 John 1:8-9

8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

When the hammer of the law crushes us, man, it's hard! But we need to be crushed; we need to see our sinfulness, and how very filthy we are. And then we can trust and rejoice in the Gospel, that we are forgiven. We are cleansed! I cling to these words. It's awesome that these words are in our liturgy, that we come back to these words again and again.
