"Airplanes" B.O.B featuring Hayley Williams

Airplanes - B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams from Johnny Tsunami on Vimeo.

I love, love, love this song. It's one of those that just sticks in your head and is fun to listen to. I remember listening to this all the time in the summer of 2010, and learning the rap part so that I could do the whole thing by memory. I like this version which is part I but I also like "Airplanes" part II which also features an Eminem part.

P.S. I Love You Score

I loved the movie P.S. I Love You, and as I watched the movie, I noticed how beautiful the music was. I was glad the score was available on CD. I could listen to this all the time! It is great music to write to or work to. John Powell is a talented composer. If I was making a movie, I would definitely want him to do the score!

"Over My Head (Cable Car)" The Fray

Watch more Rock music videos at EZ-Tracks
I didn't really pay much attention to this song when it first came out, but recently as I started listening to the Fray more, I realized I really dug this song. It has a catchy melody, and was described by Billboard as, "a timeless pop-rock smash that soars with lightness and ease."

"The Love You Save" The Jackson 5

Since Michael Jackson's death last week, I have been thinking of his music. Though I liked some of his solo stuff, I really dig The Jackson 5 stuff. "The Love You Save" for me, is right up there with "I Want You Back." Distinctive and fun melody, a lot of fun to listen to.

"Dream On" Aerosmith

This song, sometimes described as "a blues-influenced power ballad," was on Aerosmith's debut album, and has appeared on several of their greatest hits albums. I love this song, especially how the music builds and the song gets more intense as it goes on.

"Love That Girl" Raphael Saadiq

Raphael Saadiq - Love That Girl

When I first heard this song on the radio, I thought it was an oldie. But no, this is a song that came out in 2008, though it sounds like it could be from several decades ago--and I think that's really cool. I love the sound of this song. Raphael Saadiq was lead vocalist of the group Tony! Toni! Tone!, but has been a solo artist since the 90s. The album the song "Love That Girl" is from--The Way I See It, was nominated for Grammy awards.

"Where the Story Ends" The Fray

I stumbled across this song when I was listening to other music by the Fray. I am finding I like more and more songs by the Fray. I like this version of "Where the Story Ends" which has the piano as the only instrument played on it. The other version is good too, but this one for me evokes a lot of emotion and is very powerful. You can download it on iTunes.

"Lost" Coldplay

The first time I heard this song, it was the very piano driven version which I thought was beautiful. Then I found the version that's in the video--I love the percussion in this. And then there's the version with Jay-Z--the version that's in the video only with a section where Jay-Z raps about how fast people can turn on people who are successful. I really dig that version as well. Great song.

"I'll Remember" Madonna

I'll Remember
By Madonna
Best Video Codes
I think this is my favorite Madonna song. It was from the 1994 movie With Honors (which is a great movie). I love the song musically, and the lyrics really stood out to me from the time the song was first released because they speak of a "wounded" person and the impact another person has on them. Since I love writing relationshippy stories, stories about wounded characters who are impacted by someone else, this song became something of an inspiration to me as I thought about ideas and wrote. I still really love this song.

"2000 Miles" The Pretenders

2000 Miles

The song was first released in 1983, but the Pretenders did a new arrangement of it in 2008. I like both versions. KT Tunstall also did a cover of it that is pretty good.

"Do They Know It's Christmas?" Band Aid

This was written and first performed in 1984 to raise money for relief of the 1984-85 Ethiopian famine. Artists such as Duran Duran, Phil Collins, George Michael, Bono, Paul Young, Sting, Kool and the Gang, and others participated. I dig when a bunch of artists get together like this and perform together, especially when it is for a good cause.

Growing up, I remember I would hear this song played on the radio after Thanksgiving each year. I always looked forward to hearing it, and eventually bought a copy of it. I never get tired of it. From beginning to the end "Feed the World" refrain, it's good stuff. Don't really care for the remakes really though. Especially the one in 2004--they changed it too much.

"Rock & Roll" Eric Hutchinson

This is one of those songs for me that when I heard it on the radio, I had to right away track down based on a snippet of lyrics who sang it and download it. The chorus is catchy, and I can play it over and over again. I wasn't really familiar with Eric Hutchinson. He kind of reminds me of Jason Mraz.

"If she wanna rock she rocks
If she wanna roll she rolls
She can roll with the punches
Long as she feels like she’s in control
If she wanna stay she stays
If she wanna go she goes
She doesn't care how she gets there
Long as she gets somewhere she knows"

"My Sweet Love" John Mellencamp

My Sweet Love (Viral Video) from Concord Music Group on Vimeo.

This is my favorite song (right now anyway) from Mellencamp's 2008 album Life Death Love and Freedom. The music sticks in your head. There are a couple versions of the music video, but I prefer this one and think it's very creative.

"Run Runaway" Slade

The first time I heard this song was when I played an 80s compilation CD I borrowed from I guy I was dating at the time years ago. I loved the music, and I played it one time in the car when my parents and I were going to Michigan. My mom loved it, and from that point on it became our official road trip song that we have to play everytime we are traveling somewhere. It's one of these songs that lyrically isn't that profound, but it sure is fun!

"See chameleon, lying there in the sun. All things to everyone. Run runaway."

"Solsbury Hill" Peter Gabriel

Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel

It's only in recent years that I've really grown to like this song a lot. It's kind of unique with its 7/4 time signature that's used a lot throughout the song. Gabriel wrote this after he left Genesis. There are a couple good covers of the song too. I like Erasure's acoustic cover of it and I found a Dave Matthews cover online.

"Down Under" Men at Work

What a great song! It was great in the 80s and it's still great now! I love it not just for the music, but because it is about Australia, a place I have always wanted to visit. The flute part in the song is really cool, and is actually based around the tune "Kookaburra."

A year ago or so I was in a coffee house and heard an acoustic version of "Down Under" which I really dug. Colin Hay, lead singer of Men at Work, had released an acoustic version of the song. I think I may like that even more than the original. But hey, they're both good; it all depends on if you're in the mood for upbeat or mellow.

Listen and/or purchase Men at Work version

Colin Hay versions (There are 2 on his album, but the acoustic version is better, in my opinion)

"The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" Jason Mraz

Jason Mraz is fun This is one of those songs where I prefer his acoustic versions of it to the version that was initially popular on the radio. Just him singing, playing his guitar (or there are some versions where there's another guy too just playing a guitar or bongos--those are cool versions too). This is just a fun song with a good reminder for life, "I won't worry my life away."

Listen to and/or purchase regular version

You can find acoustic versions various places online.

"True Companion" Marc Cohn

Baby I've been searching like everybody else
Can't say nothing different about myself
Sometimes I'm an angel
And sometimes I'm cruel
And when it comes to love
I'm just another fool
Yes, I'll climb a mountain
I'm gonna swim the sea
There ain't no act of God girl
Could keep you safe from me
My arms are reaching out
Out across this canyon
I'm asking you to be my true companion
True companion
True companion

So don't you dare and try to walk away
I've got my heart set on our wedding day
I've got this vision of a girl in white
Made my decision that it's you allright
And when I take your hand
I'll watch my heart set sail
I'll take my trembling fingers
And I'll lift up your veil
Then I'll take you home
And with wild abandon
Make love to you just like a true companion
You are my true companion
I got a true companion
True companion

When the years have done irreparable harm
I can see us walking slowly arm in arm
Just like the couple on the corner do
'Cause girl I will always be in love with you
And when I look in your eyes
I'll still see that spark
Until the shadows fall
Until the room grows dark
Then when I leave this Earth
I'll be with the angels standin'
I'll be out there waiting for my true companion
Just for my true companion
True companion
True companion

This is such a beautiful, romantic song; a song about true and lasting love.

"All I'll Ever Ask" Joshua Kadison

Love means so many different things,
but you're all that matters,
and this is all I'll ever ask of you.

Tell me your dreams, so they can be mine too,
Let me be there, to help them come true.
Tell me your fears, when you feel afraid,
Come to my arms, let me rock them away.

That's all I'll ever ask,
That's all I'll ever ask,
That's all I'll ever ask,
Of you.

Come to my shoulder, when you need to weep,
Wake me up, when you cannot sleep.
Talk to me, when you want to be heard,
Be silent with me, when you can't say a word.

That's all I'll ever ask,
That's all I'll ever ask,
That's all I'll ever ask,
Of you.

I can't swear, that you'll never have to cry another tear.
But whenever you want someone to hold you,
I'm always right here.

So just come to me, for anything at all,
Call my name, it's yours to call.
Feel my faith in you, when you can't find your own,
And always remember, you're never alone.

That's all I'll ever ask,
That's all I'll ever ask,
That's all I'll ever ask,
Of you.

I can't swear you'll never have to cry another tear.
But whenever you want someone to hold you,
Remember, I'm always right here.

That's all I'll ever ask,
That's all I'll ever ask,
That's all I'll ever ask,
Of you.

A friend told me about this song years ago. It was a B-side song of a more popular Joshua Kadison single. And from the first time I heard it, I absolutely loved it. It is such a beautiful love song, and it can bring tears to my eyes. It's too bad this song isn't more readily available, though I believe it is on a CD of Kadison's called Premium Gold Collection which may be possible to get through Amazon.

"Alone" Heart

I love the Heart version of "Alone" which was really popular in 1987. It was Heart's biggest hit, and is a great power ballad. The song starts out kind of soft and then builds. I love hearing the group belt out the song.

I also dig the Celine Dion version of this too.
