"Say" John Mayer

Say

Take all of your wasted honor
Every little past frustration
Take all of your so-called problems,
Better put 'em in quotations

Say what you need to say [x8]

Walking like a one man army
Fighting with the shadows in your head
Living out the same old moment
Knowing you'd be better off instead,
If you could only ...

Say what you need to say [x8]

Have no fear for giving in
Have no fear for giving over
You'd better know that in the end
It's better to say too much
Then never say what you need to say again

Even if your hands are shaking
And your faith is broken
Even as the eyes are closing
Do it with a heart wide open

My friend Caryn and I were just discussing this song recently. She was talking about how she doesn't care for the song, that she doesn't like how redundant the chorus is. Though I can see where she's coming from, I really dig this song. I like it musically, and I like the message of this song. There are too many people who put off saying things that are important. Like, "I love you." Like "I'm sorry." Like "I forgive you." Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to say what you need to say. But life is short. And it's better to take a chance and speak your heart. I agree that, "It's better to say too much, than to never say what you need to say." Good words to live by. This song is from the movie The Bucket List, which I look forward to seeing.
